What is Argentine Tango?
The dance originated in Buenos Aires in the late 19th century. It is a
partner dance like Salsa.
The drama and passion between a man and a woman, the sensual steps and the
sorrow music make Tango one of the most beautiful dances in the world.
Is Tango difficult?
Tango that you have seen on TV or on stage is called 'Stage Tango' and
'Show Tango'. Originally, Tango is danced in the salon and it isn't
difficult at all.Tango is essentially walking with a partner and the music.
Tango can be danced by both men and women, regardless of their age and you
don't have to be athletic to be able to dance well.
Tango is danced by many to give them a space and freedom to breathe,
express themselves and to escape from their stressful or mundane daily
lives.
What are the other outcomes/benefits of dancing Tango?
Tango makes men
more masculine and gives women more femininity. Tango is danced not only in
Argentine, but all over the world. Tango makes it possible for two people
to communicate without knowing each other's languages.
What is Milonga?
Milonga is a term for a place or a party where tango is danced. It is
customary for me to invite women to the dance floor.
People who frequently go to milongas are sometimes called milongueros.
Milongueros go to milonga alone, with a partner, with friends, to dance,
to drink, to watch, dressed up, and sometimes just to listen to the music.
What to wear? What to bring?
Comfortable clothes should be worn by both men and women. It is okay to
come in suit after work. As for shoes, it is better to wear shoes that let you slide on the floor easily. For women, it is recommended to wear shoes with heels and a strap.(Sneakers and mules are not acceptable. Most dance shoes are accepted.)
